Thirty-third Street Renovation [completed –  2013]

The architect purchased this circa 1910 stick-built house in 2005. The house had good structure but its original finishes were damaged by years of use and layer after layer of coatings and coverings from paint to vinyl sheeting.

Given a very limited budget and time, and the need to do the work ourselves while living there, we chose to expose and renew the original finishes where they were best preserved, to reuse existing material in new ways, and to bring the home up to date with a minimum of intervention.
